Cement Blanket Installation Process

On the first day of construction, the work crew begins by meticulously preparing the slope and ditch surfaces. They thoroughly remove weeds, loose soil, and sharp stones, ensuring that surface irregularities are kept within a tolerance of ±50mm to guarantee a flat and compact substrate. For complex slopes, technicians pre-adjust the gradient to prevent excessive steepness from compromising the laying quality; in certain areas, a geotextile underlayment is also pre-installed to protect the cement blanket from puncture damage by sharp objects, thereby establishing a solid foundation for subsequent work.
Once the rolled cement blankets are delivered to the site, workers precisely cut them to the specified design dimensions, allowing for an overlap margin of 10–15 cm. During installation, the blankets are unrolled from top to bottom on slopes and in the direction of water flow within ditches. This ensures the blanket surface remains taut—free of wrinkles or suspended sections—and conforms perfectly to irregular terrain.
At overlap joints, the strict principle of “upper layer overlapping lower layer, following the direction of water flow” is rigorously enforced, with lateral overlaps measuring ≥15 cm and longitudinal overlaps ≥10 cm. Subsequently, Φ8mm galvanized anchor pins fitted with washers are used to secure the blanket in a grid pattern with a spacing of 1.0–1.5 m. At the crest, toe, and corners of the slope, the spacing is reduced to 0.5 m to provide denser anchorage, firmly locking the cement blanket in place and preventing slippage or bulging after hydration.
Construction technicians emphasize that three key points must be strictly observed during cement blanket installation: (1) When temperatures fall below 5°C or rise above 30°C, insulation or cooling measures must be implemented to avoid disrupting the hydration reaction; (2) Direct spraying of the blanket surface with high-pressure water guns is strictly prohibited to prevent the loss of cement slurry; and (3) Particular attention must be paid to watering the overlap seams and anchor points to ensure thorough and uniform curing across the entire surface. Only through strict attention to these details can this innovative technique truly realize its full potential, resulting in durable, high-quality engineering projects.
